NIGHTLIFE : TGOC X GATP(GRILL AT THE PENT)
Jomi: Sayo experienced GATP before I did (one advice, just spell out the letters, makes no sense pronouncing GATP), so I was very excited when we finally went.
Sayo: The first time I went, I thought it was going to be some sort of bbq party but it’s nothing like that. Although they serve food from their grill, I don’t think their event revolves around that because I have been there three times and it was only the last time I noticed the grill.
Grill at the pent happens every Sunday at COVA a lounge located on the rooftop of Megaplaza in Lagos. It was meant to be an afternoon party; the organizers probably intended it to be a relaxing spot after church but it really has more of a club setting now.
We decided to check out the venue around 5pm and it was still rather quiet but the music was on and we could see all the bottles ready for the night, “awon Lagos boys wo mo la to wo ko” In Olamide’ voice.
The atmosphere was amazing, very airy and well lit and you know the beautiful feeling of being on a rooftop. We always go to GATP with our friend Boye, today we were joined by another friend Larry. Boye had a table booked, I don’t know the process of table bookings but I would honestly recommend you to, as it does get rather crowded and without a table you just get pushed around.
Getting there later at night, you could see the most exotic cars packed outside and an array of people trooping in. To enter the venue, you have to look decent as the bouncers do judge, I heard one say to the other “Why you let that one enter, who hin be” I think Lagos clubs do this to maximize profit. I mean they want the bottle poppers and the prettiest girls that would increase the bottle popping.
At about 10pm when we arrived the place was quite packed, we were confidently walking to our table which we saw earlier however, when we got there the table was taken. We had to stay at the bar whilst Boye arranged another table, and trust we were in everyone’s way. Thankfully we were able to arrange another.
Our friend got their Chicken and Chips, it was cold and there really wasn’t much to it but again it’s not a restaurant and we wouldn’t say we were there for their food. The atmosphere was great, good music and I really liked whenever one Lagos boy was stunting, Dj goes “I got 1 bottle, I got 2 bottles” and trust the number of bottles are endless. The sparkler added to each bottle creates a nice effect whenever the waitresses are on the move.
In conclusion, If you are bored on a Sunday you should definitely check out GATP, we had a great night out and we would be going back there again, those who I pity however are people who have to be up early to go to work Monday morning.
Jomi: To really enjoy GATP, we would recommend you get there early and get a table if you can.
Sayo: Ladies put on comfortable shoes, as aunty Jomi could be seen removing her shoes towards the end of the night but our shoes were comfortable. I think she did it just to stand on the chair and do some Amebo, but Jomi what gist did you get for us? Ehn None? I thought so yeye.
